Fix my Jeep

Where to start with this old '96 Jeep of mine. Must have been 5 years now since we last used it. (Pic is taken during the good old times, probably in '98! From left: Ajim 4 now 15, Emi & Liyana)

A lot of mishaps with this Jeep, ever since we first bought it. A week after taking it from the dealer, I took it to KL with my kids and maid. We had our first break down, at Karak, a brand new car, rosak tepi jalan, with kids in it... what a blow that was. We had it towed to KL and fixed a leaking clutch fluid tube, purgh.

The wear and tear is expensive for this Jeep. One by one the sensors failed on us! They must have been substandard, locally assembled lah kan. Then a major part rosak and not available locally. Tah macam mane, one workshop managed to fix it. But then other problems arise and we didn't use it for quite a white.

Then we bought a Wira hatchback and I got to use a company car. So we gave the Jeep a rest. Just too long.

It ended up at a garbage dump hauled there by MPK!

Aduh! It must have been there for months by the looks of the weeds at the front fenders. We had a call from a friend asking if we had fixed the Jeep coz it's no longer at the workshop. When we asked the workshop it seemed it got towed away as non-moving vehicle in the city compound at had been placed at the Pusat Pelupusan Sampah!! God! How could they....

Since then it has been in and out of a workshop in Beserah. Now it's back to a stand still under our porch.

I am going to have it fixed.

Got up with Ajim to take out the battery for recharging, unfortunately we couldn't even pop-up the hood. Nothing came out of ignition and boot door is also jammed. Call Abby the last mechanic who'd worked on this Jeep and he'll take a look at it this evening.

No point fixing it. It will cost you more, more and more. Afterall Jeep's (Cherokee, I suppose) spare parts are not easy to get nowadays. It's better to sell at whatever price it can fetch, and get yourself a new one, probably a Japanese or Korean made.

That's what I've been telling my hub for years. Now it's only worth is scrap metal.

The interior is still nice, sayang pulak. Since my hub don't have the time to work on the jeep I thought I would, with Ajim my son.

Abby till today still did not show up! But my hub managed to pop the hood. I'm going to charge the battery and see what'll happen.

Ajim managed taking off the battery all by himself last Saturday. Thank God he didn't get himself shocked or whatever. Today we're gonna take the battery to be recharged. Probably'll cost me 4 bucks.

If it's ok, as McBudu (I like the way you write) said, sell it. You can trade in and get the RM5000 but only from Proton and Produa - Nyah

How about the new EXORA eh...

Lawak hari Isnin:

I SMSed Zul: "Proton exora rm72 seven seater, sesuai utk kite."

He replied: "Dah tengok dah ke? Berapa kuasa kuda?"

I replied: "Blum lagi. Brape kude ape? Kude belang ke kude koboi? Lebih kurang kude laut kot."

The battery is recharged. The bangla helper wanted to swing an additional ringgit on me but managed to outsweet him :)

After a few pumps the jeep is rolling!! With Ajim behind the wheels!! Semalam tambah minyak RM5. With the help of Ajim and his friend Abu off we were the three of use to the gas station with a bottle to the some gas. (Ialah! Bottle 3 liter je yang ade!!)

Again Ajim is behind the wheels, Abu beside him, and I sat grandly behind. Shok juga naik jeep ni. The engined sounds good at 40. But coughing in gear 1. Ade soot coming out from the exsos. Needs some tuning the combustion is not so good.

So next, tuning kalau can get Abby here, cat sikit, then get it to PIKOM for evaluation. See what they say and we'll proceed from there.

So the jeep is finally out of the shop (after persistant enquiry on its' status) and rolling for 2wks now, few hickups here and there but fairly ok. I told the repairman if it can last a trip to Kelantan then it's ok. So we need to try that ha? Sabar! It still needs repainting and approval PIKOM. Berapalah lagi and lama it's gonna cost..hm.

The Jeep is back into a shop only this time it's for fixing its body and paint work. It should be ready this couple of days. As usual, my other half is keen to let it ride a couple of days before checking up on it. Or he waits for me to inquire before he himself checks with the repairman. hmm. Well I hope it will turn out good. Can't wait to use it for hydroponic projects!

The jeep just made it back home but we had to be patient a little longer to have its paint work touched up. It's now black with silver bottom all around. Not bad.

Well it's now standing still under our porch. Geran pun dah hilang. Anyway dah dapat salinan baru - purgghh kene rm50. Next is to renew insurance, get a 3day permit, take it puspakom then renew road tax and its all set to go. By the way, it needs new tyres before going to puspakom, kalau tak takut tak lulus.

Norazihan said...

it's still quietly sitting under the porch waiting ...................................................................................

Norazihan said...

It's out now to get new tyres and waiting for puspakom's approval - from putrajaya! .... so ....let's wait and see.

Well, it's in use now. Still no photo to share but its black with silver lower body. Driveble, my hub uses it to go to work, some 30mins drive. So far very minor breakdowns like broken belts and gas pump. Still haven't tried long distance coz night driving is with poor vis and night driving in rain is with very poor vis.

Hello. And Bye.

Well I've signed the borang tukar nama. The new owner has already changed the tyres (2 for RM2k) and a chunk of electronic part. Has handed him the grant the money will come in only Monday. I'm sad and disturbed with finally departing with the Jeep. The guy came and went off too fast even for a last snapshot. Lot's of memories with that Jeep. Bye Jeep. Love you. Hope you're happier with your new owner. Bye
